(The Girl Who) Changed the World

She got a sunny day, she ‘s gonna make some hay (hey hey)
Oh and by the way, change the world
She got a little notion,
It caused a big commotion that rippled across the ocean
And changed the world
Did you hear about the girl who changed the world?
Did you hear about the girl who changed the world?
Did you see the wall come down?
Did you see the banner fly?
Did you take a look around?
Did you ever wonder why?
She took some this and that, she put it in a hat
And with a little tap she changed the world
She got some rick and rack, she got a gunny sack
And with a little tack she changed the world
She saw a distant land, she wanted to expand
And with a purple crayon she changed the world

And the world sat on the edge of its seat
And clapped its hands on the offbeat
And then when the song stopped stop,
you could have heard a pin drop
Before it got up on its feet

There Goes My Heart

There goes my heart walking away
Just like the sunset on a summer day
Beautiful but far away, there goes my heart
There goes my heart, whistling a tune,
just as whimsical as a night in June
Tug on the string and light the moon
There goes my heart
There goes my heart
blowing out the candles on another birthday cake
No matter how many pictures I take, there goes my heart
There goes my heart on a wing and a prayer
Going way too fast for the mind to bear
Follow behind and bring a spare, there goes my heart
There goes my heart, up on its feet
Putting the pressure on turning up the heat
Victory sure tastes sweet, there goes my heart
There goes my heart, sneaking off a little respite in the sun
Oh yeah,  life’s supposed to be fun
Dancing in the heat of summer
to the beat of a different drummer
Feet on the ground, hands in the air,
she may slow down
But she’s always there. . .  goes my heart
Cleaning house,
Chamber to chamber rinsing away the doubt,
sometimes you just gotta cry it out, there goes my heart
There goes my heart
melting into a western sky in a weather beaten pack,
Don’t worry, I’ll be back
There goes my heart

When I Get Home

Wide awake at the crack of dawn,
get up and put the coffee on
The bread that you have made, the cornerstone you laid
The smile all the years cannot fade
A little break in the afternoon,
a silent sun streams into the living room
The clothes hung on the line, foods on for dinnertime
An attic full of treasures I thought were mine
Thanks God you went before me to light the way
Up in to the hills the blackberries are on display
I trace the hope in aged skin, I trust the path I’m following
Knowing it comes round again someday
There’s a light on in the kitchen, coffee on the stove
And you are always there when I get home

A setting sun in blue and pink,
a quiet whistle at the kitchen sink
Life’s so rich she don’t need money
and everywhere she goes it’s always sunny
Thank God you went before me to light the way
Up in to the hills the blackberries are on display
I trace the hope in aged skin, I trust the path I’m following
Knowing it comes round again someday
There’s blankets on the beds downstairs
Brave goodnights and silent prayers
Laughter, sweet dreams and country air
There’s a light on in the kitchen, coffee on the stove
And you are always there when I get home

Goodbye Small Town

Goodbye small town, stop and turn around
Smiling faces watch the races
I got mainstreet under my feet
An oasis no matter what the pace is
There’s no place I belong, there’s no place I can’t go
Goodbye small town
The race has started the crowd has parted
I look around there’s no one to be found
But I got mainstreet under my feet
And when the fun’s gone still I can run on
There’s no place I belong
There’s no place I can’t go, goodbye small town
The land starts to change
Up ahead there’s a mountain range
They are high and wide, my life’s brewing on the other side
But I got mainstreet under my feet
Only one way to do it, I guess I gotta go right through it
There’s no place I belong
There’s no place I can’t go
So, I start to climb one step at a time
I know resistance is creating my distance
I start to like the feel of the fight
And the climbing is hard but the mountains are beautiful
A song in my pocket, I shoot down like a rocket
I burn up my shoes, I got nothing left to lose
Still there’s mainstreet under my bare feet
And I see friends of mine at the finish line
And there’s someplace I belong
And there’s someplace I can go, hello small town

The Day I Was Born

Tell me again how hot it was that summer
Tell me again how you were out to here
Tell me how the thought of two children
scared you to death reducing you to tears
Tell me how daddy said don’t worry,
that’s why I have two knees
Tell me like your telling me the first time, please
Tell me again about how it wasn’t easy
But how it was all worth it in the end
How you know the minute that you held me
A thousand times you’d do it again
Tell me how daddy’s eyes got misty, he got down on his knees
T ell me though you’ve told me a hundred times please

I want to hear about the day I was born
Tell me everything then tell me more
I want to know tell me again, how it was so
Don’t forget the part where I broke your heart, tell me
How it was a Sunday or a Monday, or a Friday or a Saturday
How it was one o’clock in the morning
It was 5:55 on Labor Day
How it was a dark night or a bright day
It was so hot, so cold, cloudy and gray
How you dropped it all and made the phone call

Angel to Me

I don’t see any halos, I don’t see any wings
It’s you in a baseball cap telling me to take a swing
You might not be an angel, but you’re an angel to me
I don’t hear any trumpets, I don’t hear any heavenly songs
But the time you said it’s gonna be alright
and I knew that you weren’t wrong
You might not be an angel, but you’re an angel to me
Gabriel is not your brother, Michael is not your friend
But you can’t see who’s  great or who’s small
unless you’re standing on your head
You might not be an angel, but you’re an angel to me
Now the chariots not coming for me with fiery horses flying
But the day you came and started my car
I was stranded in the snow and cryin’
You might not be an angel, but you’re an angel to me

Gone Fishin’

Oh the lines she cast, into a clouded past,
too many to mention
Oh the nets she threw into the great big blue,
with no reel intention
That old bait and switch pulled off without a hitch
may get you off the hook
Come dinnertime, when you pull in that line,
there’ll be no catch to cook
Don’t you wanna dive in feel alive again
Leave the boardwalkers, and the hockers
and the ones who keep you wishin’
The water is fine, there’s treasure to find,
Just put up your sign, gone fishin’
Oh the lines they cast when she jumped in at last,
too many to mention
Oh the nets they threw but she just slipped right through with great intention
That old bait and switch has got a little glitch
It can’t you off the hook
Come around dinner time when she pulls in that line
There’s something there to cook
The people who love you and the ones who know
They will always love you and still let you go
Come on and dive in, feel alive again
Leave the boardwalkers, the big talkers
and the hockers that keep you wishin’
The water is fine here, there’s treasure to find here
Put up your sign here, gone fishin’

I’m As Beautiful As I Never Was

I’m as beautiful as I never was, a little hum beneath the buzz
A child asleep at the dance, cold metal chairs, cold metal band
I’m sure this is fun as beautiful as I never was
I’m as happy as I never was,
but I’m not laughing now just because
A sweet smile in my chest,
is giving the laughter a little place to rest
I’m sure this is fun, as happy as I never was
Thought I was free, but I was just untied
Thought I was me, but I was untried
Always thought it should be like what was behind me
But, I’m as young as I never was
Tender skin in the morning sun
But grapes become over time, raisins or fine wine
And I decide which one, and I’m sure this is fun
as young as I never was
As beautiful and happy and as young as I never was
